Hawkeye Cosplay

Hawkeye Cosplay

To get there I followed my usual 3 steps process,
  1. Research ( reference picture of person / weapons / fabric)
  2. Material gathering ,  testing & fitting
  3. Production
Hawkeye signature would be his bow, arrows, quiver and that's about it (and sunglasses).
So here we go.

1st thing is reference, reference, reference. I like to use action figure as you can really get an idea of how to make things. The makers of the action figure already took the guess work out of the window.
http://toyhaven.blogspot.com/  to find Agent Clint BARTON. And here he is :

Hawkeye in the movie uses a Hoyt bow, a Buffalo model, so off I go to Hoyt website and google image to get a Buffalo...the bow not the real thing.

Once I got the images and a pretty good idea of how the bow is constructed, I print a side & front view of the thing on 1:1 scale.
The devil is in the details and the closer you are to reality, the closer you are to achieve a convincing cosplay.
Then I traced the outline on a piece of wood and voila.
A bit of wood working and the end product looks like this

Now to make the recurved arms. take a 20 mm pvc tube, heat it, flatten it and you get a nice recurved arm. The same method can be applied to make the blade of a katana.

Bow Completed ( + paint )

Now the quiver. same method,
  1. Reference pictures
  2. Print out on a 1:1 Scale
  3. Testing of scale ( Cardboard model )
  4. Production ( teckboard )

Adding the Arrows

Production is straight forward, Foam and wood dowel. Again, my research told me that standard arrow are 75 cm long. The bows are fixed in the quiver. I would keep a spare one for the picture

For the Vest, I used

an old t shirt, cut in the middle. then a zip was sewed. the shirt was a tight fitting. I should account for that next time. I had to suck in all the air I could in order for the zipper to close. It was more a "corset" then a vest.

Making of the vest took me :
10 hours.
4 stick of hot glue
8 power glue tube
1500 cm2 of red simili cuir
1m2 of foam ( 3mm )
half can of black spray paint
3000 cm2 black nylon fabric
5m of plastic tubing

In the End I got this
